Visit Cheltenham

Cheltenham is a picturesque and architecturally brilliant Regency town in Gloucestershire, England. Originally designed for leisure and pleasure after the spa waters were discovered in the 18th century, it is still a wonderful setting for today’s visitors whether it be for just a day or more. Legend states that the first spa waters were discovered when pigeons were noticed pecking at salty deposits which had formed around a spring. Their medicinal properties were much acclaimed and in 1788 King George III came to drink the waters, followed by other aristocratic and distinguished figures of the period.

If you fancy a relaxing weekend break, some retail therapy or cultural and sporting excitement, Cheltenham offers everything you could possibly want from a destination.  A large part of Cheltenham Town Centre is within a conservation area of outstanding national importance and you’ll see the Regency town houses with their stucco facades and a rich patterning of intricate ironwork balconies surround a leafy Promenade and historic squares. There are also award-winning gardens which are the legacies of the original Regency pleasure plus a selection of top quality shops and restaurants. Cheltenham today has a very cosmopolitan feel which is complimented by its historic architectural setting.

If you want to escape from the bustling town the beautiful countryside is in all directions. The Cotswolds surrounds Cheltenham with Stratford to the north, Bath to the south and  the Forest of Dean to the west with the picturesque Wye Valley.

Cheltenham has a wide selection of accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets from small B&Bs to large 5-star hotels. One of our particular favourites is the Wyastone Hotel which provides 5-star Metro Hotel Accommodation and is located in the Montpellier are popular for its first class shops and restaurant. The Wyastone is one of the best Hotels Cheltenham has to offer and we love the modern, contemporary styling complimented by the Regency period building.
