sightseeing
The local area has a full and interesting history. Just 6 miles away is Culloden – site of the last battle ever fought on British soil in 1746, when Bonnie Prince Charlie’s hopes to take over the Scottish throne were dashed by ‘Butcher Cumberland’. A little further on is the beautiful Cawdor Castle set in stunning grounds. There are other inhabited castles at Cawdor, Brodie and Dunrobin.
Five minutes drive away is the world famous Loch Ness with the mystical “Nessie” monster deep within. The visitor centre at Urquhart Castle beside Loch Ness is definitely worth a visit as is Loch Ness 2000 – the official story of Nessie. Or take a boat trip down the Caledonian Canal and onto Loch Ness with Jacobite Cruises.
